Alright, I think it's probably time to rejoin G2. Note, I haven't been in this RP since the first couple months the RP ran. So what's currently going on and what faction needs characters?

Or do all factions need characters.
All factions need characters. The message boards version ended with a major final battle between Kratark, a bodyguard of Makuta, and a team of asorted protagonists. Nothing much has happened since. All rules and important information can be found in the Roleplay Help and Guidelines thread.
I feel that this apparent lack of activity is somehow my fault. That said, I'd like to get back to planning for the next story arc. We have agreed that we should introduce a race of beings like Umarak to start a new unity arc. Some things that need sorting out are: how is the Umarak race discovered/created? What powers will they have? Will they all have different goals? And most importantly: since Makuta has already been defeated, what implications will this have on the Umarak race?

It's not your fault, it's just that everyone is waiting for everyone else to do something .
I think the Umarak race(let's call them Hunters) are pretty much a neutral party except when the Elemental Creatures are involved. Makuta's fall would probably just give them an opportunity to capture the Creatures while there was no one there to smite them.

That sounds like a good start. And having a race of Hunters means that some will have different motivations. We can have some that do want to capture the creatures and others that are more neutral.
We should try to have one for each element if we can.
Sounds good. Everyone that is here should make a toa soon so we can have a full team.
And about unity mechanics: should we just use my old proposal where the toa and creature are controlled by two different users?
What Toa exist so far? I definitely want to create a new one (after my first one vanished from existence and Blarkok left Aural to die ), but I need to know what elements are available.

Mine's an Earth Toa.
All elements save Earth are available because my ice toa died. You can pretty much choose whatever you want.

I've developed the strange urge to recreate one of my villains as a Toa... an antihero, perhaps? Not that I create much else.
Just wanted to pop in here and see if anyone else is still around. I recently realized that I've been neglecting to check in again and felt very guilty.

Well, to be honest, so am I.
Tell you what: I'll post those unity mechanics I've been mentioning to the rules topic and I'll type up so ideas for the Hunters. If you guys have any ideas for the mechanics of the new species, please type them up here.

I forgot that we were adding the Hunters. From what we saw, they were capable of unity, perhaps even to the point of forcing it. They wore masks, though whether or not they could control them is debatable. I would cite Umarak wearing the Mask of Control as my source, except he got corrupted and transformed by it. Maybe that could be a mechanic? If they get their hands on a mask of power, its power corrupts them and physically alters them while they're wearing the mask?

I can add that. Element-wise, we can say that all Hunters have some shadow-based powers, but for the roleplay they can also use some powers from one of the six canon elements. Hunters probably shouldn't be allowed to wear a powered mask (including toa's elemental mask or other speed/strength type masks) without suffering physical change, as you said.

Would the alteration depend on the mask, or would it be a standard change?

I'd like to say it would depend on the mask. Perhaps obtaining a toa's elemental mask can charge the Hunter with the powers of that element. Putting on a non elemental mask would give the Hunter the power, but also change the Hunters body in minor ways to fit the power (for example, mask of speed would increase the Hunter's height and make the Hunter thinner, a mask of strength would probably make the Hunter a little shorter but more muscular).
