This is a totally innocent cliff that does not have a series of traps on the ground leading to it. There are not pop-out weapons in the cliff's walls, and there is not a large section of cliff that opens up to reveal a garage and extensive hollowed-out base for the rogue RMS faction.
An x-ray scan of the cliff would turn out to reveal that it is, indeed, a perfectly normal cliff.
A truck pulls up to the cliff, stopping just inches away. Once it is made clear that there is no robotic or organic other than them, the cliff suddenly divides. The truck drives within and the cliff seals itself.
Some agents run over and help unload and un-Kiril the packages. Weapons. Lots of weapons and battle machines. They are distributed throughout the base and among the staff. One set of weapons, a beam array, is installed both on the top of the cliff and its walls.
Scanners discreetly assess the defensive power of the Scouters and sweep the area for more robots or lifeforms.
The Scouters are really puny as far as weapons go, with only a stun blaster built into their eye.
They do appear to have a form of adaptation, and there's a telepathic linking mechanism....
The Scouters do not notice teh scan, and continue collecting resources. One of them appears to finish, then beeps to the others and flies off.
Lightning seems to strike one Scouter for absolutely no reason, and the lightning jumps to the others. A freak storm begins in the area, and a heavy downpour starts very suddenly.

The stricken scouter lets out a startlingly loud modulated wail, before dropping dead. The others almost instantly adapt to the lightning, forming a faraday cage of sorts.
The rain is totally ineffective.
The scouters dislike the weather, however, and fly off somewhere else.
