"You wish to fix the Protodermis rod in Inharax's eye? Take out the beam in your own."
The shadows in the room shiver violently in response and Charix himself in his shadow form rises from one of them. He responds in a calm tone, his eyes betraying his agitation through their brightness and fiery sparking.
"You doubt me ability? Is it not true that the Brother-Hood faces annihilation? What would you have me do instead of this? Should I leave the Brother-Hood to its fate? What you do not realize Equinox, is that I am in fact, loyal to the Brother-Hood. I was loyal under Anranok, loyal under Karunax, and am, even now after having been rejected by Inharax, loyal to it. Shall I allow it to simply rot away and vanish?"
"Loyal to a false Brotherhood, that I have no doubt."

Speechless for a few seconds, Charix stands and stares at Equinox in disbelief. Features begin to appear on Charix's face as the shadows partially give way to Charix's solid form.

"You will explain yourself... Immediately."
"What is the purpose of the Brotherhood?"
Charix's shadowy form swirls violently as he speaks.
"Please. Surely you can answer this yourself. We exist to rule this world. Rule the matoran and protect them from their own whims and the whims of lesser beings. Protect the status quo that Mata-Nui established. Anything that threatens the old order is to be destroyed. This is basic. What is your point!?"

"You are just as delusional as the rest of our brothers, you have forgotten the true purpose of the Brotherhood. What you just said was never our purpose, our Duty. We were only to fill the universe with Rahi necessary to keep it functioning, to maintain existence. Anything else was never our given goal and the reason why everyone wants to see the Brotherhood dead. Not just because of Inharax, but of you Charix."

Charix's form continues to swirl, twisting and contorting. Charix's voice becomes dead pan.
"I know of what you speak. This purpose was for idealists. Those who walk through life with their eyes shut and their senses dulled followed this thought. It is foolishness to believe so. The world is filled with anarchy. Dark Hunters spread corruption, warlords seek control, malice filled Great Beings seek revenge, and, in the midst of all this, the matoran wander as sheep; being lead this way then that by the competing interests of those who care nothing for them. And where was the Order of Mata-Nui? Those fools did nothing to aid the matoran when the League of Six Kingdoms held sway. They did nothing to curtail the growth of the Dark Hunters. But as soon as we attempt to bring order to the world they suddenly decide to reveal themselves as the matoran's defenders. It's hypocrisy. So don't speak to me of petty isolationism Equinox, you are too smart for that. The world would have been torn apart many years ago had it not been for this organization's actions."

"Isolationism? You clearly misunderstand the true power of our given position and misplace the lesser power of what you want. But if it's Matoran you want, then why are you here? Leave, you don't have much time left with them for they all will turn into Toa soon."

"... ... ...True power of position? Matoran turning to Toa? Speak plainly. I came here to alert you to the fact that I am re-asserting my claim to Destral and that I expect you to join my union in order to prevent the Brother-Hood from becoming extinct. I came seeking a helper in battle and instead found a philosopher dealing in abstract ideas. What then? Can I rely on you for nothing? Are you to sit idle while your brothers fight to stay alive?"

"Matoran are degrading. They weren't built to last this long and their destines are getting confused. A massive glitch if you will that will transform every single Matoran into a Toa. Some will become Bohrok and others might just jump straight to Turaga, but they're breaking down none the less. Due to my battle with Umbrax, I see that even we are not as immortal as we think. Antermina and Umbrax may have gained a boost in their power, but at the cost of shortening their life span. They're aging faster and the next stage is death. The Matoran's condition is likely incurable, but I might be able to prevent my fellow brothers and sisters deaths.
If you want a short answer if I will help you take the throne, I will not. Leadership of a false Brotherhood is of no importance to me. If you wish to take it take, then do so, I won't stop you. Prevent me from continuing my work and you'll have worse problems to deal with than swiftly dying Makuta and mass increase of Toa looking to destroy you."

Burdened by this new information, Charix's carefully concealed, internal rage subsides and his form halts all motion.
"It is as you wish. This glitch and this aging are of importance. I did not know of it. You care not for rank but seek to continue your work? But of course. Continue your work with all due speed. I will do nothing but aid you in this... I must go. Forgive me for hasty words. It appears, while we both have different ideas of the Brother-Hood, we are still trying to do what we can for it...I will keep our organization alive and you will work to keep its members alive. I would urge you to withhold judgement of my actions until you witness their fulfillment. I cannot but assume your fears will be quelled and we may speak in a more congenial manner in the future. Farewell, Equinox, may your work prosper."

Charix vanishes, and the Dread Wing departs.
Equinox just shakes his dead, disappointed and starts working on a virus to slow down, or perhaps even prevent, Makuta evolution.
He tries what he knows best, time and Slow. Creating a couple of viruses to an attempts to slow down the evolution process so drastically as to null it.

This works to a degree, but not a true solution to prevent it, especially with all the aging weapons out there. Perhaps there is something in the Antidermis that can be damaged or turned off to prevent further evolution. Equinox studies into this possibility.

This proves to not be completely viable, at least not in the long run. It would seem that even in changing strands of the Antidermis will mean very little, it will go back to the original state given enough time. Perhaps, sadly, Energized Protodermis might be an answer. He works on altering what amount of EP he has into something workable.

So far, this is proving to much more promising. Altering the EP has allowed for controlling what pieces of the Antidermis it destroys, but is somewhat unstable so far. Working on changing the EP to continues.

Eventually, Equinox finds the correction alteration for a stable Antidermis destruction to prevent further evolution. Though since this requires EP, Equinox works on a virus to replicate its effects.

Alterations completed. After a few tests to see that the virus does not change the main purpose and should not be noticeable to others, the virus is finished.

After making and giving himself a normal version of the virus without the added bonuses, Equinox makes even of the bonus virus to give to the other Makuta. He then leaves.
A teleportation occurs, and fifty-three Rahkshi, one Keelerak, and what appears to be some form of red Visorak headed kanohi dragon appear in the area.
The Keelerak scuttles atop the dragon's back as it leaps forwards, spreading its wings to fly towards the mountainous obstruction that, by last report, hid a reclusive Makuta's base. The Rahkshi hop upon their staffs and soar behind, and about the dragon.
