Hello. As many of you will have seen, I haven't been here for the past few days. Over that time, I have (among many, many other things) written this:
Dear Sir/Madam,
We are a group of users from the LEGO Message Boards who are writing to you concerning the closure of the LEGO Universe subforum, LEGO Lord of the Rings Roleplay subforum and Old BIONICLE Roleplay subforum in the Classics forum.
While we are deeply saddened by the decision to close these subforums, it is understood by the community at large that it was made for good reasons; however, these reasons were not made clear to us despite requests for information and protests against the closure from many, which for some signifies a lack of respect for the users there. The above subforums were home to some of the most active and passionate LEGO fans on the Message Boards who were significantly invested in their activities and, as such, we feel that it would be considerate and diplomatic to alleviate the upset caused by the closure by setting out the reasons for it to the LEGO Message Boards community, demonstrating clearly that the users of these subforums are respected members of the Message Boards and providing a conclusion to this long-contentious issue.
We would also like to call for the implementation of the proposal to create an area to archive the content of forums and subforums to be closed. All of the subforums of each forum would, under this proposal, be transferred to an archive forum instead of being hidden from view; all of the topics within this forum would then be locked. This, we believe, would allow users to view content that they cared about without putting an increased burden on the moderators by having them continue to moderate new posts there. Retiring old subforums to make way for new ones must, of course, continue - but that need not mean that all of the things that members of the LEGO Message Boards have put time into to create over the years be lost to those very people. While it would be wonderful if it were possible for the content of the LEGO Universe subforum, LEGO Lord of the Rings Roleplay subforum and Old BIONICLE Roleplay subforum to be placed in such an archive forum, if it is not then that ought not to stop this from going ahead; users of other older subforums shouldn’t be deprived of the opportunity to be able to continue to look at the things that they are fond of.
It is our belief that both of these things would significantly improve the LEGO Message Boards, both preventing the loss of wonderful things for years to come and healing the rift that has sprung up in some sections of the community between moderator and user. As such, we would ask that those ultimately responsible for the LEGO Message Boards seriously consider these two proposals from dedicated members of the community. We kindly ask that any response be posted on the LEGO Message Boards themselves.
Yours faithfully,
This is the draft of a letter that will ultimately be sent directly to one of the LEGO Group's offices. It is my plan to gather the names of as many LEGO Message Boards accounts as possible as signatories to this letter: that starts with asking you guys for support and will continue with the placing of it on the Community Chat forum on the Message Boards themselves. One week after it is put up on Community Chat, the letter will be sent. If that doesn't work, I think that we can safely say that we have exhausted all options on this matter.
If you have any suggestions about improving or rephrasing the content of the letter itself, please do put them forward.
