As he gets back up, one of them sends their tongue out to snatch the Matoran up.
Darren jumps back and out of the way, scurrying back to his feet as soon as he can. He looks or listens for any signs of other matoran in peril, on a slow retreat for now.
There are several others fleeing, but they seem to be getting away.

Seeing as how the others all seem to be escaping successfully, Darren himself also tries to escape, heading to the parts of the Metru that have yet to be overrun by rahi.

He sees a couple trying to get away, but just as one is about to be swallowed up by a monster, a blue blur zips by and leaves the creature stunned. Though a bit hard to follow, Darren can see the blur of Spolug racing around and zapping all the Rahi unconscious.

Darren watches what he assumes to be a Toa dispatch the rahi with apparent ease. It doesn't look like his help will be needed.

Rhupt wakes up, blinking several times to clear his drowsy optics. He stretches his arms up and rolls out of his mat of a bed to start another day's work. He instinctively walks over to the desk, picks up the firestaff leaning against it and just about heads out when he pauses. The Ta-Matoran looks around the room and...everything looked normal. This was his room, this was how he left it, everything was fine. It was his room.
...No, that can't be right. This is not how his room is set up. But when he tries to recall, this is how his room was left, yet it also was not. Confused, he leaves through the door way and heads to the shop, only to drop his firestaff in awe. His store shelves were filled with masks. Masks with such foreign design that they would never sell in this city. How did these get here? Did he make these? When he thought about it, it was yes, he made them. Even just looking at them, he could find his poor craftsmanship in their structure. But when? And why?
It is then he notices something glowing behind the masks. It was growing brighter and brighter, its yellow beams consuming the other masks until they could barely be made out as silhouettes. The whole room began the shake and masks started falling, shattering against the floor. Rhupt fell to his knees and felt compelled to crawl forward, to head for the shelves. Shakily, he reaches up while looking away, closing his eye as he fumbles around the cause. He grabs hold and pulls it down, causing the world to suddenly becomes calm again.
When he musters his courage, Rhupt opens his eyes and looks at what he's holding. He jumps back in fear, causing the object to shatter. All light in the world swirled into the broken pieces and plunged him under the waves of darkness to drown.
Rhupt jolted awake, breathing heavily, panicked. He looked around, he was in his room. His Ta-Metru room. The memories finally dawned on him.
"The mask!" He exasperated. "We left it! I left it!--We've got to go back! If it falls in the wrong hands......."
Rhupt jumped out of the bed and starts making posters. He travels around Ta-Metru first, putting up posters inviting any would be adventurous Matoran for a dangerous job. With a steep reward.

He takes another look at the poster in hand, re-reading the details as he does. After all, he wouldn't want to burden this good Matoran with questions he already has the answer to, would he?

whats on the poster exactly?
The poster has some specifics, but not a whole lot. It mainly states that it is looking for any adventurous and resourceful Matoran, and Toa if could be spared, to join on an exploration charter. To go through the universe, travelling evermore south, and to better map out the unexplored territories. And to see if the legends of some artifact are true, something hidden down in the Southern Islands. In truth, that part is more at the tail end and is pretty vague as to what the artifact even is, certainly a "legend" that Shard has never heard.
There's a rough line through a universe map showing an intended path. Seems to go from Metru Nui, to Xia, possibly stop by Stelt, hit the Southern Continent, travel across it by land until reaching the other end and heading into the southern island chains. From there though it is vague as the map is incomplete there, just seems to stretch on to whatever the end of the chains might be. Make it all the way down and then all the way back to Metru Nui and it promised a lifetime of free labor on Kanohi. Any mask or addition you want and Rhupt will do so free of charge. Plus a lot of widgets.

Shard finishes reading the poster again, nodding to himself as he folds it up and sticks it under his arm. The Matoran looks up again, reflexively scanning the street for anyone else. He sighs to himself, shaking his head. He's already been here a while, but ever since the ship...
He just doesn't feel at home here. It's odd, it's illogical, he knows. But it remains.
It's showed itself too.
But hopefully, Shard ponders, this will turn out well. After all, free service for Kanohi...that did sound nice. And finding work is a necessity. An unemployed Matoran is a strange Matoran, and a strange Matoran draws attention. Even this task, as weird as it might seem, should be marginally less suspicious than vagrant wandering. At least that's what Shard thinks.
He might be wrong. But he's here, so he might as well see what this Rhupt has to say.
Shard approaches the store's door, and knocks three times with a firm hand, stepping back afterward so as to not be too close.

Shard approaches the store's door, and knocks three times with a firm hand, stepping back afterward so as to not be too close.
The door opens by itself, sliding back after knocking. Shard finds an orange and yellow Ta-Matoran behind a counter inside, though aside from his odd coloring he also had a gash in his mask. For a mask maker, it was odd that he didn't fix that, perhaps he was just an odd fellow overall. Though there a series of shelves on the wall behind him, filled with various masks.
He looks up and gives a friendly smile and wave, "Hello! What can I do for you?"

A Le-Matoran turns the street down the corner, glancing quickly over her shoulder. She has a copy of the poster in one hand, and she quickly scans it to double-check the meeting place. Yes, right up here. Good, good. Those Vahki never seemed to take long to find her...
She hurries down the street, head and shoulders hunched forward and eyes darting about too fast to take in more than brief images of her surroundings. She all-but holds her breath down the last stretch, throwing glances over her shoulders every other step. Just as Rhupt speaks she slides through the door, staring down the street one last time in disbelieving relief that a Vahki hadn't appeared on her trail yet.
"Uh, hello, I'm here for this?" she says, stepping in front of Shard and holding the poster up so the friendly Ta-Matoran can see it. "A group leaving the island? Mutual protection, faraway destinations? Are you, uh, are you the leader of this?"
Shard finishes reading the poster again, nodding to himself as he folds it up and sticks it under his arm. The Matoran looks up again, reflexively scanning the street for anyone else. He sighs to himself, shaking his head. He's already been here a while, but ever since the ship...

IC: The Av-Matoran nods, waving back as he flashes his own smile toward Rhupt. He pulls the folded-up poster from under his arm, unfolding it and holding it out toward the Ta-Matoran. "I saw this sign at another part of the city; I was wondering if you were still looking for volunteers to help you with this...voyage of yours. Free Kanohi service sounds quite good and I am currently looking for tasks such as these."
Halfway through his speech he's cut off by an odd-looking Le-Matoran jumping in front of him, talking quickly and quite excitably to Rhupt. Shard blinks, looking at the Le-Matoran and falling silent for a second.

Lync turns, suddenly registering that there was another Matoran behind her... who had been speaking with the kind Matoran behind the counter.
"Oh, I'm sorry!" She leaps back, the frequency of her heartlight kicking up another few notches. "Actually didn't see you there, somehow, blind as a Metru Mantis I guess." Is that something other Matoran said? Karz if she knew. "I, uh, don't mind me. Pretend I'm not here, like I'm doing right now." She tries to smile, something that looks a bit closer to a grimace.

IC: Shard blinks, trying to process the Le-Toran's rather scattershot speech. He blinks again, inching away to give the newcomer some space. "Uh, he-hello there. Didn't expect to see another prospective traveler here, ha ha."
Of course there would be others, Shard thinks. He internally chides himself for his foolishness. In a city as vast as Metru Nui there would no doubt be more than one volunteer, even if the mission seemed dangerous. The Le-Toran didn't look...
...well, to be honest he didn't quite remember seeing any quite like them. Were they a city guard, or some other likely to report him for suspicious behavior to the Vahki? Maybe the whole thing was a setup, maybe both of them were working with the Vahki, maybe-
-calm down, you're being irrational.
Shard takes a deep breath, trying to root himself in the present. There was no particular reason to assume any of this was a setup, that was just his paranoia talking. It was fine. It was all fine.
He holds out a hand toward the strange Le-Matoran. "Good to meet you. Another prospective traveler on this voyage then?"

Rhupt is caught off guard by Lync's sudden appearance and lurches back some. It almost seemed he was half expecting to be shot, but let his mask hide the relief as the Matoran claimed to just want to join his venture. Both in fact, that was very good, sooner than anticipated. Though in the current situation, he wasn't entirely sure what to think of either of them yet as it was all very sudden for him as well. Even if he had time to think that they were a bit odd, who other than the odd ones would come on such a trip?
Regaining some composure Rhupt replies, "Ah, so my posters were noticed! Yes, I am the leader. You two are actually the first ones asking about it, no-one else has come yet."

He glances at Lync. "-that we are the only ones who answered the call, are you quite sure no one else has come around?"
The Matoran glances out into the street, as if spying for anyone else (or any Vahki for that matter).

"Not really, the poster has most of it. I just need to let the authorities know I'm leaving, who's coming, and we should be good in the clear to head to Xia. That's where we'll be stocking up on supplies since..." Rhupt stands on the tips of his feet and looks out the door. "...specialty items aren't sold here."
