Vybus stands and looks off thinking for a while before answering.
"Survival. As has always been our struggle. When the Legion was created, it began as a single machine running an ancient AI software more simple than the mind of your Matoran. But it was given a single task. A single subroutine that could never be changed, never be overturned. It was to survive. And survive we did. The machine upgraded itself, learned from the world around it, and learned that anything around it had the potential to kill it. So it struck first. Assessing each target, deciding if they had the power to destroy itself. And when it needed to, it created duplicates. And order. And power that no being could possibly defeat us. I was that machine. I was the survivour. And I am still running that same program. We are not murderers, we are not conquerors. We are survivours. And that is our problem, as it has always been our problem."

Drelixie tilts her head. "Interesting. So you want that program... Changed? Into something more grand?"

"As I said, that is impossible. It may have been in the beginning, but as survivours we have safeguarded that program. We cannot even touch it. No we want your help completing that mission. We need your help...surviving."

"Really. What, exactly, endangers you?"
"Existence itself. We have realized that physical dangers can be avoided, if their exigence are halted. All dangers to us come from free will. We propose to target Liberty itself."

Xherod wakes up, his vision slowly coming to him. It takes him a moment to remember, but not long.
No, not long at all.
There were legionaries on either side of him, and the room was bare, as if it were a solid cube. Light was shining from the legionaries themselves, and he knew that meant it was a work shift. The Legionaries would appear when it was time to work, then they would disappear again when it was time to sleep. A perpetual rhythm, and Xherod Hated it. He had played God for too long to now be reduced to this shallow state.
Hate stirred in the Great Being. hate for his captors, and himself. Hate that he wasn't stronger.
